Prediction of phase diagram at 700°C in the system Ag-In-Pd was made on the basis of binary thermodynamic data and it was compared with phase equilibrium data, determined experimentally.
A combination of powder X-ray diffractometry (XRD), differential thermal analysis (DTA), metallography, and electron-probe microanalysis (EPMA) was used. Ternary phase equilibria and phase compositions were determined by powder X-ray diffractometry. Several samples were investigated by electron-probe microanalysis to fix the phase boundaries. For the construction of the liquidus surface in the entire composition range and the investigation of ternary phase reactions, samples were analysed by differential thermal analysis.
Optimization of thermodynamic parameters for Ag-In-Pd in further isothermal cross section at 200 °C, 500 °C on the basis of experimental phase equilibrium data is in progress. For thermodynamic calculations, program Thermo-Calc was used.
