The Nb-Ni binary system is reassessed by considering our new experimental data. The reassessment was conducted by two steps. In the first step, all of the experimental phase diagram and thermodynamic data available from the literature are critically reviewed, and recent experimental data on enthalpy of mixing for liquid at 1900 K as well as an accurate crystallographic description for μ phase were adopted in the present modeling. The step-by-step optimization procedure was employed in the optimization. In the second step, a consistent thermodynamic data set for the Nb-Ni system is obtained by considering reliable literature data and the present experimental results from DTA, XRD, optical microscopy and EPMA techniques. The experimentally measured phase diagram and thermodynamic data (enthalpy of mixing and enthalpy of formation) are well reproduced by the present modeling.
