Measurement of Mixing Enthalpy in Liquid Binary KCl-K2TiF6 System

Mixing enthalpy is one of the basic thermodynamic properties of solid and liquid binary and multi-component phases. Its concentration dependence is one of the most important parameters, determining the equilibrium phase diagrams.

 

That is why it is an important task to create and continuously develop a data bank with mixing enthalpies of binary, ternary and multi-component solid and liquid alloys as function of their composition and temperature. This project has been in progress at the Department of Physical Chemistry of the University of Miskolc for the last decade, mainly through creating a databank of existing literature data [1-2] and by modeling thermodynamic properties [3-5] and phase equilibria [6-11]. In order to enlarge this project, a SETARAM high-temperature drop calorimeter has been purchased for this Department in Dec. of 2002. In the present work our experience with the calibration of this device and its usage for determining the heat of mixing of KCl-K2TiF6 binary system will be presented as function of concentration and temperature.
