Dr. Larry Kaufman (born on June 6, 1931 in New York City) passed away on December 2, 2013 in Israel. He was the founder of CALPHAD, the father of Materials Genome, our mentor, colleague, and dear friend. Dr. Kaufman was the inaugural recipient of the ASM International J. Willard Gibbs Phase Equilibria Award. An obituary was published in the CALPHAD journal.
Following two scholarships have been established under his name:
1). The TMS Kaufman CALPHAD Scholarship is now established and can be applied at the TMS Students Award Page. Contributions can be made online at TMS Foundation. Please be sure to write "For Kaufman CALPHAD Scholarship" in the box "Special Instructions". Alternatively, you can send your contributions to the following address and indicate on the check that it is "For Kaufman CALPHAD Scholarship": TMS Foundation, 184 Thorn Hill Road, Warrendale, PA 15086, USA. Donor’s name will be added to the donor's list on the TMS Foundation web page for this scholarship.
2). Larry Kaufman Scholarship supports current students to attend the CALPHAD conferences.
