Aim of the Conference

Calphad conferences has been regularly held since 1973 and provides an opportunity for worldwide phase diagram community to meet, present and discuss their work, Topics include, but are not limited to:

Ab initio (first principles) calculations
Metallic systems
Non-metallic systems
Amorphous materials
Nano systems
Software and database development
Industrial applications
Integration of CALPHAD modeling and phase-field simulations
Modeling of diffusion and phase transformation
Coupling of thermodynamic and material properties modeling

As is usual, there will be no parallel sessions, and each day will include both oral and poster presentations. Computer demonstrations and tabletop displays from participants are also welcome.

Conference Location

The Pyramida Hotel, Prague is within walking distance of Prague Castle in a quiet residential area of Prague. It is 10 km from Prague airport (code PRG) and basic information on public transportation and how to get there by car are available here.
Prague is well known for its Castle and well-preserved medieval old town, its Jewish quarter, and many museums, galleries and parks.

Accommodation

Participants must take care of their own accommodation.

Accommodation in the Pyramida Hotel is guaranteed for those who make a reservation on its website-form before January 31, 2009.
A double room costs 115 EUR/night. It is also possible to use the form to order individual car transport from the airport.

A limited amount of cheaper accommodation for students is available in university dormitories. This has to be arranged on an individual basis on the principle of "first come, first served".

Visas

Citizens from certain countries may need a visa to enter the Czech Republic. For further information participants are encouraged to consult their local travel agent or the nearest diplomatic mission of the Czech Republic. The CALPHAD organizers will provide invitation letters for conference-related delegates if needed.

Dietary requests

Vegetarians and others on special diets, please fill in relevant line in the registration form or contact the organisers.

Social Program

On the evening of Tuesday, May 19, the conference concert will be organized in the Aula Carolina of Charles University in Old Town Prague.
In keeping with CALPHAD tradition, on Wednesday, May 20, there will be a conference excursion to Karlstejn Castle, a medieval castle founded by Charles IV, in the afternoon, followed by the Conference Banquet in Strahov Monastery, Prague in the evening.

Call for Abstracts

Contributions to the CALPHAD meeting must be in English and should report original work.
A template for abstracts is available here. The abstract must be in either MS-WORD format or rich text format (RTF) and must be submitted by e-mail to calphad@ipm.cz with the file name starting with the last name of the presenting author. The e-mail subject should be "CALPHAD XXXVIII Abstract" to avoid the possibility of being treated as spam.
In the e-mail, please indicate your preference in terms of oral or poster presentation. However, the organizing committee reserves the right to determine the presentation type.

Poster Information

The ideal poster size is max. 150 cm high x 100 cm wide. Pins will be available on site.

Registration Fees

Before January 31, 2009: 450 EUR (600 USD)
Between January 31 and March 31, 2009: 500 EUR (670 USD)
Accompanying Person: 150 EUR (200 USD)

Prices include welcome reception, access to the conference and one booklet of proceedings, all meals and coffee breaks from Monday to Friday noon (lunches and dinners), conference excursion, conference dinner and concert.
For accompanying persons, the registration fee includes welcome reception, dinners from Monday to Thursday, conference excursion, conference dinner and concert.
The fee does not include accommodation.

Cancellation Policy

Notification of cancellation in writing prior to April 1, 2009, will entitle the sender to a full refund less a 40 EUR processing fee plus the actual credit transaction charges if paid by credit card. Substitution may be made in writing, via email, or fax before May 1, 2009. Substitution after May 1, 2009 can be made in person at the conference registration desk.
