Aim of the Conference


CALPHAD has been held regularly since 1973 and provides an opportunity for the worldwide phase diagram community to meet, present, and discuss their work. Topics include, but are not limited to:
  • Ab initio (first-principles) calculations
  • Metallic, Non-metallic, Nano systems
  • Amorphous materials
  • Functional materials
  • Software and database development
  • Industrial applications
  • Experiments that need thermodynamic analysis

Additionally, special attention is being given to multi-scale simulations for prediction of materials properties.

According to CALPHAD tradition, there will be no parallel sessions and each day will include both oral and poster (130 cm high x 90 cm wide) presentations. Computer demonstrations and tabletop displays from participants are also welcome.

Call for Abstracts


Contributions to the CALPHAD meeting must be in English and should report original work.
A template for abstracts is available here. The abstract must be in either MSWORD format or PDF format and must be submitted by e-mail to calphad@postech.ac.kr with the file name starting with the last name of the presenting author. The e-mail subject should be "CALPHAD XXXIX Abstract" to avoid the possibility being treated as a spam. In the e-mail, please indicate your preference in terms of oral or poster presentation though the organizing committee reserves the right to determine the presentation type.

There will be no on site registration.

  • The registration fee includes access to the conference and one proceeding booklet, welcome reception on Sunday, all meals and coffee breaks from Monday breakfast through Friday lunch, and Wednesday excursion.
  • Accompanying person registration includes all of the above except the proceeding booklet, plus the accompanying person programs on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday.

Visas


Citizens from certain countries may need a visa to enter Republic of Korea. For further information, participants are encouraged to consult their local travel agent or the nearest Republic of Korea diplomatic mission. The CALPHAD organizers will provide invitation letters for conference-related delegates if needed.

Dietary requests


Vegetarians and others on special diets, please fill in relevant line in the registration form or contact the organisers.

Cancellation Policy


Notification of cancellation in writing prior to April 1, 2010, will be entitled to a full refund less 50 USD processing fee plus the actual credit transaction charges if paid by credit cards. There will be no refund after April 1, 2010. Substitutions may be made in writing, via email, or fax until April 20, 2010. Substitutions after April 20 can be made in person at conference registration desk.

Location


The conference will be held at the Ramada Plaza Hotel at Jeju Island, South Korea. See www.ramadajeju.co.kr for more details on the hotel and http://www.jejutour.go.kr for more about the Jeju Island. Numerous attractions are available for conference attendees and accompanying persons. The airport code for Jeju is CJU.

Social Program


On Wednesday, May 26, the Conference will be interrupted for a half day trip to the Jeju folkvillage (at Pyosun). In keeping with CALPHAD tradition, a gala dinner will be held at the Conference Hotel on Wednesday evening.

Accompanying Person Program


In addition to the welcoming reception, all meals and conference banquet, the tentative accompanying person program includes the following events:

May 24 (Mon):  Excursion to Seongsan Sunrise Peak and a boat trip to Udo.
May 25 (Tue):  Excursion to Jeju Botanical Garden Yeomiji and Sulloc (green tea) Museum.
May 27 (Thu):  Excursion to Seogwipo area.
